Q: What if I’m not a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt, but I’ve been training consistently for over a year? A: While a blue belt or higher is required to be officially certified, you’re still welcome to purchase and complete the course. We review each case individually, and if your experience and skill level align with our standards, we may approve your certification once your instructor confirms your status. You’ll also be eligible for certification upon receiving your blue belt. Q: I’m a collegiate wrestler with extensive grappling experience but no formal BJJ rank. Can I still take the course? A: Yes. We recognize that grappling experience extends beyond traditional BJJ ranks. If you have a strong foundation in wrestling, mma, or similar disciplines, we may make an exception on a case-by-case basis. You must still complete the course in full and submit the required instructor verification and teaching materials. Q: Can I go through the course now and get certified later, once I meet the rank requirement? A: Absolutely. You can complete the course at any time, and we’ll issue your certification once you’ve met the belt rank requirement. Many students use this course to prepare for future instructor roles and improve their teaching skills ahead of time. Q: Do I have to be a law enforcement officer to take this course? A: No. However, the course is built for law enforcement, security, and first responders teaching control and defense tactics to their respective agencies. Individuals outside of these professions requiring instructor certification may also enroll, so long as they meet our other requirements. Q: Do I need to be actively teaching to take this course? A: No. This course is designed to prepare you for teaching, whether you’re currently in an instructor role or planning to step into one. You'll gain the tools, structure, and curriculum to teach effectively when the opportunity arises. Q: Will I receive an actual certificate? A: Yes. Upon successful completion of the course requirements (including video submissions, instructor verification, and final exam), you’ll receive a digital certification and recognition as an official Jiu Jitsu Five-O Certified Instructor. Q: How long is the certification valid? A: The certification is valid for 12 months. We require an annual renewal to ensure instructors remain active, up to date, and connected to our Jiu Jitsu Five-O standards. Q: What does the annual renewal involve? A: Renewal includes a short teaching update (video), a check-in form confirming your continued training, and the annual renewal fee. No re-testing is required unless our program standards change significantly. Q: Is there ongoing support after certification? A: Yes. Certified instructors receive 24/7 support throughout the year, access to updates, training tools, lesson plans, and direct communication for help with curriculum, technique questions, or department implementation. Q: Can I use this course to help launch a program at my agency? A: Yes. Many instructors use this program as a roadmap to help launch or formalize a Jiu Jitsu-based training program at their department. You’ll also gain access to templates and lesson plans specifically designed for in-service training.
